  • The Dental Admissions Test, or DAT, is required as part of your application to dental school. The DAT tests your retention of science-based academic knowledge acquired in your undergraduate classes and your perceptual ability.
  • The Dental Admission Test consists of four tests: Survey of Natural Sciences, Perceptual Ability, Reading Comprehension, and Quantitative Reasoning. Taking practice tests will allow you to study the materials closely and help you identify areas you need to improve in. Online videos, textbooks, and class notes are great study materials.
  • Anyone applying for dental school must take the Dental Admission Test. However, each school sets its own score standards for admissions.
  • The Dental Admission Test is scored on a scale of 1 to 30. Your raw score, which is the number of questions you answer correctly, is converted to a scaled score based on the scores of other DAT test-takers. There is no penalty for incorrect answers.
  • We recommend creating a Dental Admission study plan to prepare for the DAT. Begin by making a Dental Admission studying schedule and sticking to it. And expect to study A LOT.
